Still Beating - Jennifer Hartmann

Where do I begin?!? First of all, I liked the book... okay I loved the book. But, and this is a big but, I would not buy a hardcopy version of the book. The reviews on this book RAVED about it, and the TikTok's I saw gave it an equally raving review, but it fell short for me. I don't get triggered by tough topics so the traumatic assault that occurred in the first part, but for some reason, this book was a bit much. It was beautifully written; and the trauma that Dean and Cora go through is what bonds them in a way they haven't prior, kind of launching into the inevitable of them being together but Cora LITERALLY killed me throughout the book. I understand people deal with trauma in different ways but GIRL. Also, I think it's weird that her other book about the boy held captive for 20-plus years is pretty much the same plot as this one; centered around someone going through a life-altering traumatic experience and trauma bonding into an 'inevitable relationship' bothered me a bit. One that everyone could see was happening but the main characters didn't. I'm just glad it ended in a happy ending because if not I'd boycott this book until the end of time LOL!
